Nature trails, mountain lakes & cycling adventures around the Zugspitze

The Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena is one of the most varied cycling regions in Tyrol. Spanning the seven villages of Ehrwald, Lermoos, Berwang, Biberwier, Bichlbach, Heiterwang am See and Namlos, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to tours and trails. Here, you can enjoy leisurely rides along panoramic paths and alpine roads, or flow down trails such as Forest One & Two towards the valley. Even more action awaits you at the pump track in Lermoos.

Fancy the ultimate biking experience? The 112 km Zugspitz-8 circular tour follows valley paths around the Wetterstein Mountains and the striking Daniel peak. The cycle tour starts and finishes in Griesen – along the way, you’ll experience panoramic paths past picturesque mountain lakes and breathtaking mountain views, and cycle across the border between Bavaria and Tyrol. If your calves can handle even more trail action, you can extend the 2,300 metres of elevation gain on the Zugspitz-8 with one or two challenging additional routes. On this tour, you’ll truly push your limits.

A turquoise eye-catcher on the Blindsee Trail

The region’s main highlight, however, is the Blindsee Trail. At the summit of the Grubigstein, you’ll soak up the incredible panorama for a few more minutes before plunging into the alpine trail adventure. On one side, the Zugspitze massif towers above everything with its rugged walls, eroded over time – on the other, you look down onto the turquoise-blue Blindsee. The ride first takes you along a forest track, past the Grubigalm and finally onto the trail. It flows smoothly across open meadowland, becoming increasingly steep as it winds through sunken paths and past rock faces down into the valley. Just before the Grubigalm, you finally reach the junction for the actual Blindsee Trail.

The Signature Trail combines all the ingredients needed for a successful Tyrolean trail experience: a flowing trail route over 7 km and 609 metres of elevation gain, a tricky key section, technically demanding gravel gullies, a waterfall (!), a section of forest track, dense woodland with thick root systems, steep steps and a magnificent view of the turquoise-blue lake. At the end, a dip in the cool mountain lake water awaits as a reward!

Highlights for your MTB holiday in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena

The mountain panorama on the Tyrolean side of the Zugspitze is kitschy beautiful. And in between? A colourful MTB potpourri with highlights of all kinds!

  • Blindsee Trail with natural flow and a turquoise-blue mountain lake
  • Forest One & Forest Two as well as a skill area and pump track in Lermoos
