The biking region around Ehrwald, Lermoos and Biberwier has been one of Austria’s most popular mountain biking destinations for years – and for good reason. Nestled between the Zugspitze, the Wetterstein massif and crystal-clear mountain lakes, cyclists can look forward to an impressive variety of leisurely rides, alpine challenges and flowing trails. 1. The Blindsee Trail – a real classic

Whenever people talk about mountain biking in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, one name almost always comes up first: the Blindsee Trail. This 8.3 km singletrack is one of Tyrol’s best-known trail experiences and delights riders with spectacular views of the turquoise-blue Blindsee lake, as well as varied trail sections all the way down to the valley – 700 metres of elevation gain of Tyrolean trail fun.

Don’t forget your swimming trunks!

2. Forest & Forest Two – Lermoos’ trail duo for adrenaline junkies

At Grubigstein, Forest One (formerly Forest Thunder) and Forest Two (Forest Aisle) offer one of the most exciting trail experiences in the region. Forest One runs downhill from the middle station and features sections of varying difficulty. Forest Two adds extra elevation gain to the experience and starts right at the Grubigalm. You’ll never be satisfied with just one run here – thanks to the lifts, you can easily complete several trail runs in a single day.

3. Lermoos Skill Area – Improve your riding technique before the big tour

The modernised Skill Area is situated right next to the Grubigsteinbahn valley station. A variety of features and difficulty levels allow you to practise your balance, cornering technique and bike handling in a targeted way. It’s an ideal spot for beginners, those returning to the sport, and anyone who wants to build up a bit more confidence before tackling more challenging trails.

4. Lermoos Pump Track – Fun for all ages

At Lusspark in Lermoos, a modern pump track awaits anyone who wants to work on their riding technique. The undulations and steep bends aren’t just fun for children. The pump track is perfect as a warm-up before a ride – or for a relaxed evening session with the whole family.

5. The Eibsee Circuit – 35 kilometres of Zugspitze panoramic views

Anyone who wants to experience the Zugspitze from every angle should add the Eibsee Circuit to their to-do list: the tour, which is around 35 km long, starts in Ehrwald and leads via the Höhentörle Hut to the famous Eibsee on the German side. The views of Germany’s highest mountain – and the turquoise-green waters of the Eibsee – are particularly impressive. The route is considered to be of medium to high difficulty and combines alpine scenery with a cross-border cycling experience.

6. Dreamteam bike & cable car – cycling infrastructure that really impresses

More than 1,000 bike-kilometres await you in the Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena. The considerable elevation gain can be easily overcome by mountain railway – more trails, less pushing. This opens up significantly more opportunities for mountain bikers to combine trails and tours. Especially around the Grubigstein, cyclists benefit from good infrastructure and lift access – making it possible to tackle several descents in a single day. Instead of spending hours pedalling uphill, you’ll have more time for the real highlight: the trails and the mountain scenery!

7. Lake Heiterwanger & Lake Plansee – a leisurely tour along the water’s edge

Not every day spent cycling in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena has to be all about technical trails. Around Lake Heiterwanger and Lake Plansee lies one of Tyrol’s most scenic leisure regions. Together, the two lakes form Tyrol’s second-largest body of water. Those looking for a relaxed ride will find idyllic lakeside paths, crystal-clear water and plenty of photo opportunities.

Particularly appealing: the complete circuit of Heiterwanger See and Plansee, covering around 21 kilometres with a climb of just 51 metres of elevation gain – perfect for families, leisure cyclists or as a gentle evening ride to enjoy the sunset.
