You can set off from the hotel on the Dachstein loop or the region’s new signature trail: the BergeSeen eTrail that takes you through the Salzkammergut. Tradition and hospitality have played an important role at the traditional Landhotel Agathawirt for around 400 years. The Schenner family has been running the mountain bike hotel for 200 years. The hotel combines protected Renaissance double windows, 17th century frescoes and original Altaussee marble with modern extensions, cosy rooms and regional specialities.
Andrea & Bernhard are not just passionate hosts but are themselves also enthusiastic mountain bikers. Bernhard is a qualified guide and takes his guests 1x per week on the most beautiful tours through the Salzkammergut. Good food plays a key role – so the tours always include a stop at a rustic chalet. The manager is available to provide guests with tips & tricks every day, and bikers can meet up every evening at the regulars’ table in the pergola or Stüberl. I love mountain biking ... but I love enjoyment even more.
Meaning no bike tour without a hut, without a stop or without relishing the view across the landscape on a break.
When we are out and about somewhere else, I always get asked the same question: What makes your Salzkammergut so beautiful?
My answer is always the same: YES, there are other beautiful regions with fantastic huts and great trails. BUT there are not many regions that offer this unique combination of mountains and lakes. And there is not just one but 76 lakes!
My own level of fitness is not so good but I know the region very well. My guests can always ask me about tours, truly “delightful views“ and huts in the region. For more comprehensive and technical information, there is Bernhard, my partner, who is a qualified mountain bike guide and likes to take our guests on ”tours with the boss“. Helmut and his team at the Bike Centre also help almost daily in addition.

Mountainbike Halbtagestour im Salzkammergut
Unser Tipp als Halbtagestour (am Anreise- bzw. Abreisetag)! Die ersten Kilometer radeln wir gemütlich über schmale Wiesenwege in Richtung Ortszentrum Bad Goisern. Wenn wir dieses auch nur am Rande streifen, bekommen wir doch schon einen ersten Eindruck vom beschaulichen Urlaubsort. Nachdem wir das Ortszentrum immer der Traun folgend gemütlich umfahren haben, geht's ab ins sogenannte Weißenbachtal - leicht bergan steigend, aber technisch (noch) wenig herausfordernd in Richtung Chorinskyklause. Mäßig steile Anstiege führen immer tiefer in den Wald hinein ins Nebental des Dürrenbaches und hoch über dem Weißenbachtal zurück. Dann geht es flach weiter bis zur kleinen Lichtung der Brunnentalalm mit drei Holzhütten. Hier biegen wir links ab, queren den Weißenbach und kommen zu einer Abzweigung. Rechts könnten wir noch ca. 2 km weiter leicht bergauf Richtung Traunbachau biken. Unsere Route führt an der Abzweigung links auf eine sanft abfallende Forststraße an der echten Talseite zur Brunnentalalm. Nach 300 Metern erreichen wir links eine kleine Abzweigung zum Kaisertisch und zur Chorinsky Klause, der letzten funktionsfähigen Holzklause Österreichs. Wir nehmen die Abzweigung nach rechts Richtung Obermuth und Hochmuth und halten uns bei der nächsten Kreuzung geradeaus Richtung Niedermuth und Stainach. Aber Achtung - so wenig herausfordernd die Auffahrt durch das Weißenbachtal war - die Abfahrt ist ausgewaschen und durch den teils tiefen Schotter technisch nur etwas für den geübten Mountainbiker! Entlang der Traun geht's in Richtung Hallstättersee und wieder gemütlich - zum Ausrollen - über die Wiesenwege zum Landhotel Agathawirt.
