You can set off from the hotel on the Dachstein loop or the region’s new signature trail: the BergeSeen eTrail that takes you through the Salzkammergut. Tradition and hospitality have played an important role at the traditional Landhotel Agathawirt for around 400 years. The Schenner family has been running the mountain bike hotel for 200 years. The hotel combines protected Renaissance double windows, 17th century frescoes and original Altaussee marble with modern extensions, cosy rooms and regional specialities.
Andrea & Bernhard are not just passionate hosts but are themselves also enthusiastic mountain bikers. Bernhard is a qualified guide and takes his guests 1x per week on the most beautiful tours through the Salzkammergut. Good food plays a key role – so the tours always include a stop at a rustic chalet. The manager is available to provide guests with tips & tricks every day, and bikers can meet up every evening at the regulars’ table in the pergola or Stüberl. I love mountain biking ... but I love enjoyment even more.
Meaning no bike tour without a hut, without a stop or without relishing the view across the landscape on a break.
When we are out and about somewhere else, I always get asked the same question: What makes your Salzkammergut so beautiful?
My answer is always the same: YES, there are other beautiful regions with fantastic huts and great trails. BUT there are not many regions that offer this unique combination of mountains and lakes. And there is not just one but 76 lakes!
My own level of fitness is not so good but I know the region very well. My guests can always ask me about tours, truly “delightful views“ and huts in the region. For more comprehensive and technical information, there is Bernhard, my partner, who is a qualified mountain bike guide and likes to take our guests on ”tours with the boss“. Helmut and his team at the Bike Centre also help almost daily in addition.

Mountainbike Tour nach Altaussee
Ab zu den steirischen Seen im Ausserland! Gut gefrühstückt erwartet uns gleich die erste Herausforderung - es gilt die gut 600 hm über den Pötschenpaß ins Nachbarbundesland "Steiermark" zu überwinden - die sog. alte Pötschenstraße geht steil bergauf - Kopfsteinpflaster - und geschotterte Forststraßen im oberen Teil führen zur Paßhöhe. Als Belohnung erwartet uns der erste See des Tages der kleine Sommersbergersee (ein besonders warmer Moorsee ) - Blick zurück über die Schulter - das Dachsteinmassiv - und weiter geht's in Richtung „Kainisch“ - hier verlassen wir die Beschilderung der Dachsteinrunde blau - radeln durch das Ortszentrum von Bad Aussee zum Grundlsee (wunderschöner Badesee). Im Ort „Grundlsee“ links auf die „Tresselwand“ - der steile Anstieg wird belohnt durch einen Traumblick über den See, auf gleichem Weg wieder talwärts und weiter das kleine Forststraßerl in Richtung der Ortschaft „Altaussee“ und „Altauseersee“. Beim dritten See des Tages lohnt sich nochmals ein Einkehrschwung - und vielleicht auch Sprung in den See. Den Rückweg zum Landhotel Agathawirt wählen wir über von Altaussee aus, entlang der Pötschenwand mit ca. 500 hm. Hierzu folgen wir einfach der Beschilderung der Blaa-Alm-Runde in umgekehrter Richtung.
