Alpine, unspoilt, wild: cycling holidays in the Julian Alps

On panoramic alpine tours, you’ll cross densely wooded high plateaus such as Pokljuka, Jelovica and Mežakla, whilst there are gentle routes to discover around Bled. A mild climate ensures long days of cycling, whilst the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve offers a harmonious blend of nature, culture and sustainable tourism. After your ride, cool off in the turquoise waters of Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. Along the way, you’ll be treated to Alpine-Mediterranean specialities: from fine dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant to traditional cream slices at a lakeside café.

Via the Julian Alps Bike Network, you can intuitively explore the dynamic landscape. The multi-day Juliana Bike tour covers 290 km in around 7 stages around the Julian Alps – over challenging mountain passes, panoramic plateaus and picturesque valleys. Meanwhile, on the well-developed Soča Cycle Route, you follow the route of the historic Bohinj Nostalgia Railway.

Do you love bike parks? Then head to Kranjska Gora & Bovec!

If bike park adventures are part of your perfect MTB holiday in the Julian Alps, then Kranjska Gora and Bovec are the places for you. Both bike parks have been imaginatively carved out of the wild, unspoilt forests by local cycling enthusiasts. Alpine forest trails offer airtime, fun and technical training amongst like-minded riders.

In the Kranjska Gora Bike Park, near the Austrian-Italian border, you can tackle 20 km of varied trail combinations through the dense forest. From technically demanding downhill and freeride to easy family flow trails, Slovenia’s first bike park has it all. To get started, take the bike chairlift – with views of the impressive mountain scenery and the historic ski resort. The small but excellent Bike Park Bovec in the heart of the Soča Valley also caters to all skill levels: the 1.4 km-long Airline offers endless jumps; the Jungle Line takes you on a flowing 1.3 km ride through the dense greenery.

Did you know that Slovenia has its very own “Little Tuscany”? Discover Goriška Brda, a region of rolling vineyards, excellent cuisine and picturesque cycle paths.
