Your host Silvio Rigatti, the padrone di casa, is a passionate mountain biker and triathlete. And he’s not the only one at the SantaLucia active hotel! Almost the entire team is made up of passionate mountain bikers and road bikers. Pleasure biking around Lake Garda is Silvio’s speciality – his guided tours through the biking and water sports Mecca have long had cult status.
With its almost kitschy location on the northern bank of Lake Garda in the surfers’ paradise of Torbole, the hotel offers on-road & off-road bikers the perfect starting point for numerous routes and tours. Surrounded by palms, vines and centuries-old olive trees, the active hotel is located away from noise and traffic – but very close to the town centre and azure blue Lake Garda. Active holidaymakers can start the day swimming some lengths in the large 25m pool or exercising in the large fitness room with modern Technogym equipment. In the evening, Silvio invites guests to enjoy some “after-bike time” while sampling some wines and olives in his wine cellar. And what would a holiday in Italy be without the wonderful Mediterranean alpine cuisine! Specialties from Trentino and Veneto are combined with the hearty home-style cooking of the Lombardy region. There are countless reasons to spend a biking holiday in Lake Garda – according to biking legend and friend of the hotel Uli Stanciu there are even 164 reasons – and the SantaLucia is undoubtedly one of them.

Bike competence As a mountainbiker you’ll be in good hands here.
I started cycling in the 70s. Back then, I used a road bike, a “Bianchi“ to be precise, which I had been given by my uncle. Shortly after, I registered with the Benacense Sports Club in Riva del Garda and accomplished my first race in the beginners’ class in 1976. Cycling was my absolute favourite sport from this day onward.
But it didn’t take long until I bought my first mountain bike and concentrated on this sport. I like cycling because it gives me a feeling of freedom and I can be outdoors to enjoy nature and beautiful views - which still delight me time and again. By the end of 2017, I will have accomplished approx. 8000 kilometres by bike. And with 5 tours a week, I train on my road bike as well as on my mountain bike.
I currently use a Scott Genius mountain bike and a brand-new BMC Teammachine SLR01 road bike with Lightweight Obermayer wheels.
My favourite mountain bike tour is the “Monte di Cavadine“ with an in part asphalted ascent, surrounded by very impressive and historic places and a descent through the forest. The tour is perfect for all MTB enthusiasts, takes over 5 hours and has an altitude difference of approx. 1000 m.
