See you @Savinja Valley
The mountain scenery around the upper Savinja Valley is simply breathtaking, the alpine glacier valley resembles a postcard and seems to have fallen out of time. The green Savinja River meanders through the entire valley at the foot of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The travel guide Lonely Planet has named the Loger Valley "one of the most beautiful Alpine valleys in Europe". And just like the whole of Slovenia, this small Alpine region surprises with an incredible array of scenic beauty and cultural treasures. Waterfalls, ice caves, nature reserves, panoramic roads, fly fishing - it's all here in the small Savinja Valley.
The lower Savinja Valley, surrounded by a ring of hills and peaks, is characterised by hops, which have been cultivated for centuries, earning it the nickname "Valley of Green Gold". The winding valley routes lead along the characteristic hop gardens - but there is also a selection of challenging MTB and gravel tours to choose from. Mountain bikers will get their money's worth on the downhill from the wooded Golte plateau in the heart of the Savinja Valley. The view from the region's tourist winter sports centre alone is worth the climb up to around 1,400 m: from here you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and the eastern Karawanks. The cable car takes you up to the plateau, saving you time and energy. Neither very active nor very anxious mountain bikers will easily break into a sweat up here. Those who like it hotter are in good hands on Smrekovec - Slovenia's only volcanic mountain.
