What can you expect from a cycling holiday in the Kronplatz Dolomites region?

On a mountain biking holiday in the Kronplatz Dolomites region, you’ll set your sights higher: several cable cars will whisk you up to the expansive summit plateau in no time at all – offering 360° views of the Marmolada, the Three Peaks and the main Alpine ridge. And the two world-class museums: the Messner Mountain Museum Corones and the LUMEN Museum of Mountain Photography. From here, 18 varied trails and 35 alpine MTB routes branch out in all directions. This is what freedom feels like. An ideal starting point is the Dragon Trail (2 km / 178 m elevation gain), which flows smoothly towards Olang. Things get more challenging on the technical Gassl Trail (6 km / 883 m elevation gain), which features bends and small jumps.

The benchmark remains the legendary Herrnsteig Enduro Trail: around 9 km and 1,300 m elevation gain of unspoilt singletrack, technical, varied and featuring iconic variants such as ‘Franz’ or ‘Hans’. The cycling season runs – depending on the altitude – from June to October. As well as the downhill fun in the Bike Park, it’s worth exploring the extensive network of trails through the three national parks, the numerous quiet side valleys and the rustic alpine pastures of the Puster Valley.

Between trails and valleys in the Dolomites

A mountain biking holiday in the Kronplatz region of the Dolomites doesn’t end at the summit. All around this iconic mountain lie gentle side valleys such as the Antholz Valley, the Pragser Valley and the Gsies Valley – perfect for a change of scenery on longer rides. On the Puster Valley cycle route, you can combine around 105 km of enjoyable valley trails with alpine climbs and scenic panoramic routes.

In the four MTB areas around Kronplatz – such as the Antholz MTB Area or the Cir Skills Park – you can hone your technique or ease into the ride. It is precisely this mix that makes mountain biking in the Kronplatz Dolomites region so special: you switch between challenge and flow, valley and altitude, concentration and ease, downhill and Dolomite tours – all in a single day.
