See you @Savinja-Tal Mountain biking and e-biking in the Savinja Valley
The mountain backdrop of the upper Savinja Valley is simply breath-taking, the alpine glacier valley is like a postcard motif and is a bit like going back in time. The green Savinja river meanders its way through the entire valley at the foot of the Kamnik Alps. The Lonely Planet travel bible described the Loger Valley as “one of the most beautiful alpine valleys in Europe”. And just like Slovenia itself, this small, alpine region surprises with an incredible range of beautiful landscapes and cultural treasures. Waterfalls, ice caves, nature reserves, panoramic roads, flying fish – you’ll find all this in the small Savinja Valley.
In contrast, the lower Savinja Valley, surrounded by a crown of hills and summits, is characterised by the hops that have been cultivated for centuries, which have given it the name of the “Valley of Green Gold”. The winding valley routes take you along the characteristic hop gardens – but you’ll also find a range of challenging MTB and gravel tours. Mountain bikers will find exactly what they’re looking for when riding downhill from the forested Golte high plateau into the heart of the Savinja Valley. The uphill section up to around 1,400 m is worth it just for the view from the region’s tourist winter sports centre: from here you can enjoy an impressive panorama of the Kamnik Alps and the Eastern Karawanks. Or you can save energy and time by taking the cable car up to the high plateau. Neither very active nor very fearful mountain bikers will really break into a sweat up here. Those who like things a bit more heated should go to the Smrekovec – Slovenia’s only volcanic mountain.
