Schladming-Dachstein is known in biker circles mainly because of the bike park on the Planai. The jump line enjoys a high reputation among downhillers. However, there are now more attractions. Offering a bike infrastructure for the whole family, numerous trails of different levels of difficulty, including the Reiteralm Junior Trails, have been created on the Reiteralm. The bike park was also completely renovated in 2019. A new flow trail has been added - including Dachstein view of course!
Juniors and the Dachstein
7.7 km and 477 downhill metres must be managed on the new flow trail. Given this key data, the trail - built by trail experts from all over the world - manages to delight beginners as well as advanced bikers. Beginners and families can enjoy the gentle gradient and sweeping curves. The ground feels reliable in terms of safety and the view always delights with the unbeatable Dachstein panorama. Experienced bikers use the tables and waves for jumping and drop in curves, utilising the speed and lines in a completely different way. The forest also offers a variety of views. Sometimes it's mossy rocks, sometimes dense coniferous forest. But honestly – the panorama in the unobstructed areas is simply unbeatable. Anyone who has outgrown the flow trail uses the 3.5 km long jump line and may eventually venture onto the legendary World Cup downhill track.
On one side the Hohe Tauern, on the other the Dachstein Massif with the Hohe Dachstein in the middle. The Dachstein is situated exactly on the border between Styria and Upper Austria and is also the highest peak of both federal states. Featuring a wooden summit cross, the Dachstein was developed for tourism as early as 1834. Perhaps this early development already reflects the region’s intensive growth in the area of tourism.
Biking families feel also at home in the region. For example, everyone can have fun biking together on the Reiteralm. The little ones enjoy the Junior Trails: four trails with a total length of 600 m and easily accessible by using the Magic Carpet. Older kids choose one of Reiteralm trails, with a total length of 15 km, and check out how they may combine them. Because the advantage here is also in the options you have and the new combinations you can create from them.
The possibility of biking together also becomes clear here. Many families and beginners are out and about on the trails, biking together and enjoying the view and stop at one of the serviced alpine pastures. A whole new generation of mountain bikers is growing up here. How much we would have loved that as children. Magic carpet, trails and that view - a dream.
We are delighted by the variety of combinations and above all we are looking forward to our next visit with the whole family. Having undergone complete renovation and redevelopment, the Planai Bike Park will be open again with new routes in 2020 after being closed for a whole season in 2019. In combination with the Reiteralm trails and the region's range of tours, everything a biker's heart desires can be found here.
Whole families as well as large and rather diverse groups of friends can have fun here.
