I accomplished my first mountain bike tour in 1986 on a mountain bike without any suspension. It was only a few years later that you could get bikes with the first suspension forks. There weren’t any helmets and protectors. Disputes about biking with property owners and hunters were also unheard of back then. There were only astonished faces and a smile about the then unknown sport.
In the past 30 years, I accomplished over 50 alpine crossings. Today, I remember especially the ones with glacier crossings and alpine challenges. To me, it was always important to be out and about away from the usual routes.
And this is still the case now. My playground in Leogang and the Kitzbühel Alps is so vast that there are still many MTB routes away from the tourist mainstreams. The mountains here in Leogang offer everything from easy panorama trail to flowy nature trail. My favourite tour, the “Sausteign“, offers exactly that. The ascent with the Asitzbahn is followed by around 1000 m of a beautiful nature trail, then another ascent of 700 altitude metres and finally a further 700 metres across meadows and flowy forest paths back to Leogang.
