Amidst the Dolomites, alpine pastures and the Mediterranean way of life

Hardly any other cycling destination combines alpine landscapes and the Italian way of life as impressively as South Tyrol. Here, over 2,000 kilometres of routes and trails take you through the Dolomites, across alpine pastures with stunning views, through dense mountain forests – and all the way down into the sun-drenched valleys of Italy. Whether it’s a challenging summit tour, a flowing trail or a leisurely e-MTB ride – South Tyrol delights with la dolce vita, Mediterranean cuisine and alpine diversity, making every day on the bike a new experience.

From the Dolomites to wine country

The range of cycling experiences is impressive – from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites to the South Tyrolean Wine Route. Around Kronplatz, Bruneck, Alta Badia, Val Gardena and the Three Peaks, the spectacular Dolomite peaks dominate the panorama. Here, you can dive straight into legendary trail loops such as the Herrnsteig, explore alpine high-altitude trails and tackle challenging tours against one of Europe’s most impressive mountain backdrops. Meanwhile, in the Eisack Valley around Brixen, flowing trails meet historic old-town alleyways, whilst the Eggental impresses with its striking rock formations and alpine pastures offering stunning views.

Further south, the landscape changes noticeably: vineyards, orchards and Mediterranean temperatures characterise regions such as Tramin. Here, enjoyable rides combine with South Tyrolean wine culture and a particularly long cycling season. It is precisely these contrasts between the alpine north and the Mediterranean south that make South Tyrol so appealing.

Trails, enjoyment and genuine cycling expertise

South Tyrol has been one of Europe’s leading cycling destinations for years. Modern lift facilities, bike parks, flow trails and professionally developed trail networks create the ideal conditions for beginners, families and ambitious mountain bikers alike. From the enduro routes at Kronplatz, through the legendary Sellaronda trails in Alta Badia and Val Gardena, to the varied alpine trail areas around Brixen and the legendary Three Peaks, everyone will find their own favourite spot.

Added to this is a factor that makes South Tyrol special: after the ride, you’ll be greeted not only by spectacular views, but also by rustic alpine huts, South Tyrolean specialities and genuine hospitality. With Schlutzkrapfen, dumplings, Mediterranean cuisine and a glass of Gewürztraminer, alpine tradition and the Italian dolce vita blend together here to create a cycling holiday that goes far beyond just cycling.

I am a passionate mountain bike and road bike rider. As a certified bike guide and qualified RotoPress and Born to Run trainer, I am happy to pass on my experience. Daniel, also a guide, is a qualified road bike and mountain bike guide and sports masseur. He supports me.

On the guided tours at the Melodia del Bosco bike hotel, you will be accompanied by boss Klaus Irsara or one of the bike guides from the Dolomiti Biking Guide Team. All of them are local and know their way around the beautiful mountains of the Dolomites.

The bike guides Armin and Davide are your contacts when it comes to biking. Always according to the motto: "Downhill on tarred or forest roads is pointless loss of altitude metres. We're already biking when others are still stuck in the snow."

Christoph Kofler runs the Hotel Maria with his wife Beatrix - he is a bike guide, mountain expert and racing cyclist. He is supported by the hotel's own bike guide Robert. They are the guarantors for perfect mountain bike experiences.
