Approved Bike Areas, the promise of quality from “Mountain Bike Holidays“

Since its foundation, ”Mountain Bike Holidays“ has put emphasis on service, quality, proficiency and information. This is why the quality standards for bike regions have been created. Member regions which fulfil those special standards are awarded the title Approved Bike Area, the only seal of quality for bike regions.

Required quality standards for bike regions:

Mountain Bike Holidays

  • At least 20 devised tours
  • Tour programme for various levels of difficulties
  • Detailed mountain bike information on the region’s website
  • Free of charge mountain bike information material
  • Advisory competence around mountain biking
  • Bike hire, workshop, shop
  • Transport for bikes on public transport or mountain railways

Three regions registered for approval at the relaunch of the Approved Bike Area project. The regions were inspected and rated in the following areas:

  • Preparation of information for mountain bike guests
  • Range of tours & trails provided in the region
  • Local infrastructure and services

A total score of 300 points could be achieved. Depending on the points achieved, the regions could receive between three to five stars. The stars were allocated as follows:

Approved Bike Area - 5 Sterne: 300-280 points
Approved Bike Area - 4 Sterne: 280-260 points
Approved Bike Area - 3 Sterne: 260-240 points

More and more regions take the test to become an Approved Bike Area thus being one of the first certified bike regions in the Alps. All of the 3 regions rated have been able to claim 5 stars for the 2016 bike season.
