MTB holidays in the Brixental Valley: flow, panoramic views & trail action

The Brixental Valley is one of the most diverse biking regions in Tyrol. Families can enjoy a leisurely ride along scenic paths and alpine roads, whilst ambitious mountain bikers can race along natural trails and legendary single tracks through the Kitzbühel Alps. Five summer cable cars whisk you up to the trailheads in no time, whilst rustic huts, deep-blue mountain lakes and sun-drenched grassy slopes offer a genuine taste of Tyrolean life. All the while, you’re treated to breathtaking views of the striking Großer Rettenstein, the Wilder Kaiser and the surrounding peaks.

But a mountain biking holiday in the Brixental valley isn’t just about trails and altitude, it’s also about moments of pure enjoyment. Between the Ochsalm, Maierl-Alm and rustic sun terraces, you can refuel with Tyrolean delicacies, light Kaiserschmarrn and regional culinary delights. Afterwards, Schwarzsee, Ehrenbachhöhensee and the Kirchberg swimming lake await – perfect for a well-deserved dip.

The Brixental Valley – your trail paradise in Tyrol

Beginners and families can get started in the MTB Family Area at Streiteck and on the Sonnenrast Trail (2 km / 133 m elevation gain). Smooth bends, small undulations and playful features ensure quick progress and plenty of fun. Those looking for more action can head straight for the region’s classic trails. Take the Fleckalm Trail, for example, which is one of the “Great Trails of Tyrol”. Over 7.2 kilometres and around 1,100 metres of descent, this challenging natural trail constantly alternates between root sections, banked bends, small jumps and fast flow sections.

The Sun Trail in Brixen im Thale, on the other hand, is more flowing, sunnier and perfect for beginners: the 2.2 km singletrack starts at 1,340 m and combines gentle bends, smooth undulations and relaxed flow with magnificent panoramic views. The Hahnenkamm Trail provides extra thrills: over 7 kilometres and 850 metres of descent, steep bends, wooden bridges and natural sections deliver a real Streif feeling – all the way down to Kitzbühel. The Lisi Osl Trail (2 km / 410 m descent) on the Gaisberg is technically playful, whilst the new Kirchberg Trail will bring a further 10 kilometres of alpine trail fun down into the valley from summer 2026.

FAQs about the Kitzbühel Alps – Brixental

Why is the Brixental considered one of the most diverse mountain biking areas in Tyrol?

The Brixental combines family-friendly attractions, challenging MTB tours and flowing singletrails in a single region. Over 81 mountain bike tours and 8 singletrails wind through the Tyrolean mountains around the Wilder Kaiser and the Großer Rettenstein. Particularly handy: 5 mountain cable cars make access to the trails easy.

Which singletrails are particularly popular in the Brixental?

Among the best-known trails are the Fleckalm Trail, the Lisi Osl Trail and the Sun Trail. The Lisi Osl Trail is 2.3 km long, technically moderate (S2) and features plenty of banked bends and root sections. The Sun Trail, on the other hand, is considered an ideal starting point for beginners and leisure cyclists.

Is the Kitzbühel Alps – Brixental region also suitable for beginners?

Yes, the Brixental is one of the certified ‘Easy & Family’ regions in the Alps. There are special tours without technically difficult sections, beginner areas such as the MTB Family Area Streiteck, and flowing beginner trails such as the Sonnenrast Trail or the Sun Trail.

How extensive is the MTB trail network in the Brixental valley?

The mountain bike network comprises over 800 kilometres of trails and more than 32,000 metres of elevation gain. This means that both e-mountain bikers and athletic trail riders will find suitable routes – from relaxed alpine loops to technically challenging natural trails.

What are the highlights of the Sonnenrast Trail in the Brixental valley?

The Sonnenrast Trail was developed specifically for beginners and flow enthusiasts. The highlight is an approximately 8-metre-high wooden spiral, combined with roller elements, footbridges and banked bends. Thanks to the panoramic views and the playful route design, it ranks among the most modern flow trails in the region.

Why is the Lisi Osl Trail so special for mountain bikers?

The trail is named after the Austrian MTB legend Elisabeth “Lisi” Osl, who hails from Kirchberg. The natural trail combines smooth flow sections with technical elements and is suitable for both experienced riders and those trying singletrack for the first time.
