Biking at the Lake Garda
Lake Garda in Northern Italy is the biggest lake of the country (369,98km²) and invites you to take a swim in summer in the averagely 18 to 20 degrees warm water. The landscape is characterized by extreme contrasts and reaches from the Lake Garda to the impressive peaks of Tremalzo, Monte Baldo and Monte Bondone. Biking in Carinthia
Carinthia is known as the land of lakes, which is due to the fact that there is a high amount of lakes in a relatively small area. Lake Faak is the most southern bathing lake of Austria and captivates through its characteristic turquoise and clear water and the excellent water quality. Lake Ossiacher with its surface of 10,79 km² is Austria’s third biggest lake and has a temperature up to 27 degrees. It is a popular holiday and tourist destination and is located between the wooded precipices of the Gerlitzen in the north and the western foothills of the Ossiacher Tauern in the South. As the highest located bathing lake of the Alps lake Weissensee impresses with unspoiled natural beauty, a high water quality and a water temperature of 26 degrees. The word Weiss means white and was given to the lake due to its eye-catching whitish colouring. The northern and southern lakeside are bordered by steep, wooded mountain ranges and cliffs. Lake Weissensee is known for its rare combination of Bike & Boat. One of the most popular tours is the “Big lake tour” with up to 1200 metres difference in altitude and unique vantage points, past rustic mountain huts and streams via the lakeshore road.
Mountain biking in the Salzkammergut
The Salzkammergut at the northern edge of the Alps ranks among the most beautiful cultural areas Austria’s and is part of the World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. The salt, which has been mined since prehistoric times, has given its name to the region. More than 70 different lakes of various sizes and kinds can be found in this impressive area that covers three states – Upper Austria, Salzburg and Styria and has a fantastic mountain scenery.
Lake Atter with a surface of 64 km² is the biggest of the lakes in the Salzkammergut and lakeTraun is the deepest (191 m). The most popular lakes are Lake Wolfgang, Lake Mondsee, Lake Hallstättersee and Lak Altausseer. The region is the annual venue of the Salzkammergut-Trophy, a famous all-mountain marathon.
In the upper austrian part of the Salzkammergut one can find 75 tours with a total amount of 1450 kilometres and 40 000 metres difference in altitude. Especially recommendable is the “Salzkammergut Tour” which starts at the eastern shore of lake Hallstättersee and which offers a spectacular view of the historic village Hallstatt. A highlight is the crossing of the suspension bridge between Obersee and Obertraun , as well as the beautiful view of the area Ausserland and the idyllic Altaussee.
