Hannes Nindler – Biking as a matter of the heart

In 2004 a fatal attraction came to pass between me, an exhausted hotelier, and a bike. Looking for something to balance my working day, I discovered mountain biking, and it never let me go. Pedal off and let go – fun, experiencing nature, and ambition drive me further and further into the Nockberg mountains.

By won’t become a top biker any more, I am too much hooked on pleasure biking. I am no fan of crazy routes or the stress of notching up vertical metres. I love tours which offer great views, good climbs, but also rest and refreshment. I believe you have earned something after so much pedalling, whether it be Kaiserschmarrn or a Bauernspeckbrot, a Glandner Kas or Frigga. Then the energy bars and energy gel can stay in the rucksack.

Once a week I personally lead you on my favourite routes through the Nockberg mountains. They are always great fun, whether to the Schwarzsee lake or to the Hochalmhütte mountain hut, to the Kolmnock or the Feldpan Alm. Together with the Krainer Bike Centre in Feld am See, we have come up with a great selection of tours for you. We offer guided tours, led by professionals, in different ability groups almost every day.

Since 2009 we have our own technique course. We have built a great route in the woods only two minutes from the hotel, together with the local mountain bike club, where you can check out and improve your riding technique with me in a technique training session. Uphill technique, hairpin bends, downhill technique, all of that is much easier given the right tips, and conjures up a smile, particularly amongst the ladies.

Our rental bikes – TOP Hardtails with the Stevens label - are available to anyone without a bike, or wanting to try out a new bike. It is a pleasure for me to be able to advise you with tips and suggestions, whether it be steep uphills, or leisurely up and down, don’t spend all your time reading about it, working it out, and planning, INSTEAD ask and head off on the bike…. That is what a bike holiday in the Lindenhof is all about!

My personal highlight for 2011: The ALPE ADRIA GENUSS-TRANS-ALP

The aim is to cross three countries and three culinary worlds on a leisurely route, starting from Feld am See. It goes over the Nockberg mountains and the Karawanken to Slovenia, along the Isonzo into Collio to Italy, and via the Karst to Dunio to the coast. At the finish, we drink a well earned wine in the fishing village on the coast and eat freshly caught fish. Any biking effort is quickly forgotten with the help of carefully selected stopping places with culinary delicacies, and overnighting at well-known vineyards.
