…and then I discovered Au in the beautiful Bregenzerwald area!

As a born and bred South Tyrolean, I was in love with the mountains even as a a little boy. The high summits around me fascinated me, as did the stories about the mountains that my dad told me. When I was finally allowed to go on a tour with him, it was clear to me that this was what I wanted to do, whether on foot or on 2 wheels.

Some years have passed since then and it is not the mountains in South Tyrol that I climb now, but rather those in Bregenzerwald. The junior boss, Michaela, put me onto the idea, and I packed my bags almost straightaway, came over the Brenner and Arlberg passes, and am now responsible for all things to do with sport in the Hotel Adler. As a qualified mountain bike guide, tennis trainer, mountain guide and winter hiking guide, offering these activities to guests is no small thing, and do you know what? It’s great fun!

As a former professional sportsman, I am always looking for a challenge on every trip on the bike, and always come back with a broad grin on my face if, whilst exploring the best tours, I find a new single trail in this fantastic mountain biking area. Okay, I promise…. I’ll show them to you too!

The Bregenzerwald region, especially the area around Au, is an ideal starting point for mountain bike tours of all types. I like the rich variety: from easier tours for families and leisure bikers ride up to the most demanding uphills and fast downhills for the hard-core bikers. Many of the tours lead to Alpine huts offering irresistible refreshment such as Bregenzerwälder mountain cheese and hams.
