Resident biker
Kurt Exenberger and the team from the Bike Academy are true specialists of the biking scene. Kurt is not only a national trainer for mountain biking, but is also responsible for the running of the “Kitz-Alp-Bike” events. All tours are discussed and analysed at the bikers’ get-together.
Rosi Aschenwald, the boss of the hotel, was for many years a member of the Austrian ski team and has taken part in many World Cup races for Austria. It goes without saying, that she is still very involved with this sport, but in summer her sport is “mountain biking”.
The Hotel Aschenwald is located in Westendorf and is an ideal base for tours into the Kitzbühel Alps. These tours have something for everyone; through our cooperation with the Bike Academy, it is possible for us to offer guided tours each day in different ability groups. When mountain biking in the Tyrol Alps is mentioned, one name immediately springs to mind: Kurt Exenberger, Austrian mountain bike national team trainer, boss of the Bike Academy, and Tyrol’s “Mister Mountainbike”.
The 35-year-old, who comes from the idyllic village of Oberndorf (near Kitzbühel) was himself a keen competitor in top-level sports, such as triathlon, BMX, cross-country, racing biking, and mountain biking, before he turned his hand to offering mountain bike training about 10 years ago. The expert now, in his Bike Academy (based in Kirchberg), offers professional training to hobby bikers too. The expert is convinced that “there are plenty of technical training tips that are very useful for hobby bikers to help them start their bike season safely and without injury”. He also offers his customers psychological training, including individual training plans for taking up mountain biking professionally.
Kurt’s big passion now is now showing his customers the numerous mountain bike tours through the wonderful landscape of the Kitzbühel Alps, his home area. Kurt is inspired by the idea of making mountain biking in his home area of the Kitzbühel Alps more popular, and proving that this is one of the most beautiful regions for bikers. In cooperation with the Kitzbühel Alps tourist office, and together with his organisation team, he organises the “KitzAlpBike” bike Festival, which takes place over several days. The event, under his experienced hand, has developed to be a classic in the mountain biking scene and attracts about 1000 keen hobby bikers and top riders to the Kitzbühel Alps region each year.
