The boss of the hotel, Christian Reich, has made a career out of his hobby. He is a qualified bike guide and will lead you on all the trails, showing you the most beautiful mountain bike routes in the Bregenzerwald area. Every tour is a real experience with him. He is not only a mountain bike guide, but also a member of the mountain rescue team, and of the canyoning team, and is a motor cycling guide and hunter. He will be able to answer any questions you may have, and will have plenty of stories to tell.

Insider tip for mountain bikers
The Bregenzerwald area is still something of an insider tip. What is extraordinary here is the range on offer, from very leisurely tours right up to the most demanding. Many of the tours follow cultural routes: to alpine pastures where the delicious local Bregenzerwald cheese is made. Every biker will have a great time biking on the 500 km of mountain bike routes here.

Biking combines perfectly the aspect of health on the one hand and an experience of nature on the other. Your thoughts run free, the stress of everyday life disappears, and on completing a tour, a feeling of pride sets in. In general when biking, the better you have trained, the more fun you will have. The feeling of getting to the summit of a mountain under your own steam, enjoying a well earned refreshment break at an alpine hut, and taking in the fantastic views is simply fantastic.

Tips on biking technique:
As well as the fitness aspect, biking technique also plays an important role in safe and fast mountain biking. This is why I would like to give you a few valuable tips to help you ride better on any future tours you embark upon.

Short ascents with obstacles:

• Think/look ahead when biking
• Use the right gears (not too low, but also not too high ratios)
• Pay attention to where you position your weight when out of the saddle so as not to lose traction with the back tyre

Long ascents:

• Pace yourself; don't start the climb too quickly.
• Stay relaxed, and don't use too high gears

Single trail:

• Think/look ahead when biking
• Let the bike run, and stay relaxed
• Use a suitable gear for the terrain (pedaling relatively quickly so as to be available to react to obstacles)

Downhill:

• Think/look ahead when biking
• Ride at a speed that is suitable for the conditions and your own riding ability
• Use arms and legs as suspension, and stay relaxed
• Position your centre of mass further back according to steepness (the steeper it is, the further back your position)

Cornering:

• Push the outside pedal downwards and the inside pedal upwards so as not to touch the ground or obstacles
• On potentially slippery ground (gravel, mud etc.) click out the inner foot so as to give the bike more stability
• Adjust your speed to suit the radius of the corner and the surface conditions
